The 2011-12 college football season kicks off this Saturday, and Atlanta’s Georgia Dome hosts one of the most intriguing games of the opening weekend and one of only two that pair Top 25 teams according to the preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll. The no. 7 Boise State Broncos make a cross-country trek to meet the no. 22 Georgia Bulldogs, who travel just up the road from Athens, in the fourth annual Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

Tickets for the 32 nd Annual Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Classic, the traditional showdown between historically black institutions Bethune-Cookman University and Florida A&M University, are now on sale to the general public. Tickets to America’s preeminent HBCU football game may be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, at the Amway Center box office, by phone (407.839.3900) or any Ticketmaster outlet. This year’s game will be played on Saturday, November 19 at 2:30 p.m. in Orlando’s Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium while being televised nationally on ESPN Classic.

The Florida Citrus Sports Shootout, a neutral-site basketball game that produced early-season fireworks in 2010, will return this season with a game featuring the University of Florida Gators against the Stetson University Hatters. This year’s “Shootout” will take place on Monday, November 28, 2011, at Amway Center in Orlando. Tickets go on sale to the general public June 21 via Ticketmaster.com while Florida Citrus Sports members and those who purchased tickets to last year’s game will have an opportunity to purchase in advance.

Florida Citrus Sports is launching an initiative to help those so affected by the late-April tornadoes that ripped through the Southeast, devastating portions of Alabama. The organization has partnered with local ABC affiliate and official media partners WFTV Channel 9 to match a $100,000 contribution toward those efforts, specifically focusing on providing aid in Tuscaloosa.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida is the new title sponsor for the annual Florida Classic football game between Bethune-Cookman University and Florida A&M University, as well as title sponsor of Battle of the Bands. In addition, the Florida Classic Consortium has also agreed to an extension with Florida Citrus Sports that will keep the game at Orlando’s Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium for the next five years.

For just the fourth time in 26 years, the Capital One Bowl will be played on the day AFTER New Year's Day. The 2012 edition of the top non-BCS bowl game in the country - along with all other traditional Jan. 1 games - is moving to January 2. The game will remain in its traditional 1:00 p.m. timeslot and be televised nationally on ESPN.
