Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan announced at Monday’s FCSports Member Celebration that Bill Sullivan, owner of I.Wanna Distributors, has earned the not-for-profit’s highest service honor, the Howard Palmer Award. Hogan also announced L.J. Ruffin & Associates owner Larry Ruffin began his one-year term as chairman of the board while Bobby Kuykendall of Kuykendall Gardner Risk & Insurance Brokers was inducted as the organization’s 36th president.

The Florida Citrus Sports Foundation, with the assistance of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and Florida Hospital, will offer free sports physicals to local elementary, middle and high school-aged youth as part of the “Be a Player” program. The physicals – which are required for participation in Orange County Public Schools athletics – will take place in the Varsity Club of the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium (One Citrus Bowl Place, 32805) from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

Florida Citrus Sports will host the annual Member Celebration on Monday, April 23 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. atop the Orlando Science Center at Lockhaven Park, signaling the start of 2012-2013 season. Held on OSC’s Rooftop Terrace, the Celebration will be highlighted by the Member Service Awards presentation and first remarks from new president Bobby Kuykendall.

For 30 years, Florida Citrus Sports and its bowl games have been blessed with the golden pipes of Bob Matheison handling the public address announcing duties. After three decades, Matheison has announced that he is retiring from the booth and turning over the reins to someone else. In the spirit of competition, FCSports has decided to open up to the public the audition to fill Matheison’s shoes.

Florida Gators mens' basketball team is ranked No. 10 nationally in the first
official poll of 2011-12. The team is set to visit Orlando in just over a month
for the 2011 Florida
Citrus Sports Shootout, the college basketball game held at Orlando’s Amway
Center on November 28. This year’s “Shootout” will feature the Gators versus the Stetson University Hatters.

With less than a week before the event, only nine foursomes remain for the Orlando Mini Open presented by Roetzel and Andress. The Open is the primary fundraising event for the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation MVPs. Foursomes are $500, while individual tickets may be purchased for $125. All proceeds benefit the Foundation MVPs and FCSports’ efforts in Central Florida.
