The Florida Citrus Sports Mini Open helped raise an estimated $45,000 for the FCSports Foundation MVPs, thanks to the support of a sold-out field of 72 foursomes, many of whom broke out their most festive golf attire for the event.
Organized in the style of a PGA Tour stop, the Mini Open organized players into foursomes and split them across two flights of golf at Hawaiian Rumble Adventure Golf on International Drive. At the end of the night, team and Individual winners were crowned. Individual winner Scott Wall of RBC Bank shot an impressive seven-under 34 to capture the individual crown.
The team winners were Brenda Barrett, Chris Kanert, Jose Leon, Sean O’Keefe, playing under the team name of Florida Lightning, with a four-under 156 for the group. They were just one of over 20 groups on hand from Bright House Networks thanks to the contributions of Bright House VP and current FCSports President Michel Champagne. In addition, Florida Lightning member Jose Leon was awarded the "best dressed" award for his Scottish-themed attire.
The Mini Open also featured a silent auction with over 60 items, including tickets to the BCS National Championship, suite tickets for Redskins-Giants at the New Meadowlands Stadium; Wyndham Vacation Resort stays, sports memorabilia and more.
Proceeds from the event benefit the FCSports Foundation MVPs programs. The foundation supports four initiatives – Take Stock in Children, Florida Citrus Sports Summer Camps, Day for Kids, and the Dream Ticket Clearinghouse – all dedicated to helping low-income and at-risk youth in the Central Florida area. Through these programs, the Foundation has helped children receive college educations, develop stronger attitudes toward academics, athletics and achievement as well as providing over 9,500 tickets to the Champs Sports Bowl and other college and professional sporting events.
