Edgewater Crew - OUC Half Marathon & 5K "Rowed Race" Fundraising Event On Saturday, December 4, 2011, rowers for the Edgewater Crew rowing team will participate in the OUC 5K (5000 meter) road race (Rowed Race) as part of a fundraising event to benefit the Edgewater Crew rowing team. The Edgewater Crew rowing team is a club sport at the high school level, which means that the team is fully responsible for its own finances with no dedicated funding from the state, county or school. The Orlando Rowing Association, Inc., organized as a Florida corporation in 1967, is a 501, (c) (3) charitable, educational, non-profit organization, created to serve as the dedicated governance entity for funding and management of all Edgewater Crew rowing team activities. Each Edgewater Crew rower/runner will be personally paying $28 to participate in the race. Half of their registration fee goes back to Edgewater Crew as a donation to their rower's membership account. 100% of any donations made on behalf of each rower will also be a donation to Edgewater Crew, aka Orlando Rowing Association, Inc., and be credited to that rower's membership account. Other area high school crew teams will also be participating in this fundraising opportunity so as to encourage competition not only on the water but also on the streets of downtown Orlando. Athletes who are unable to run in this event due to injuries are eligible to participate, but will have an ergometer (official rowing machine) requirement to fulfill as established by their coaches.
